"Tai Chi for Better Balance" is an evidence-based fall prevention program for older adults.
Classes last approximately 45 minutes and include warm-up, core tai chi, and cool-down exercises. Participants will learn an eight-form routine. Goals of the training are to improve postural stability, control of body positioning, gait initiation, movement symmetry and coordination, and lower extremity strength.
Chair-supported practices, progressing from completely seated, through sit and stand, to chair-assisted movements, are included to meet the needs and performance capabilities of individual participants.
Classes will be held through April. Participants must start with the January 14 class and be registered by then.
Participants should wear comfortable clothing and shoes and move only to their limits. For questions or concerns, contact the instructor.
Note: There will be no class on January 21, February 14, February 18, March 14 and April 11.
